2011 Challenges

Psst. Guys? I am a sucker for Challenges.

You could blame it on my competitive upbringing or just my love of reading - but reading challenges get me going.

And 2012 looks to be even bigger than 2011 …

I am planning on signing up for …
22 Challenges.

I know, I know – I’m crazy, right? But hear me out – I am hoping to finish off my huge TBR pile (so I can buy more books) and maybe this will give me that push!

No? Well, maybe …

Here’s the list of the not-quite-finished:

Dystopia Challenge
Status: 10/15
Comments: And I still have soooooo many in my pile in this genre left to read! It’s shameful, it is. As it is – the five outstanding are: Hare Moon by Carrie Ryan, The Host by Stephanie Meyer, Justin Cronin’s The Passage, Specials by Scott Westerfield and Ally Condie’s Matched. These are all on the table for next year …

Shifter Challenge
Status: 14/20
Comments: I love Shifters … but apparently, they just weren’t big on my “To Read” list for 2011. The 6 outstanding are:  Heartless by Gail Carriger, The two Sequels to Lunarmorte by Sam Young, The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan,  Trial by Fire by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Holly Black’s Black Heart. Will have to reboot this challenge up and go for it again, I guess J

Vampire Challenge
Status: 19/20
Comments: So close!! Sigh, and the only one outstanding is Heartless by Gail Carriger! It is sad but true – and I am only 40 pages into it, too!

Off the Shelf
Status: 40/75
Comments: Sigh – this number was a long shot, it’s true. And there are way too many that I would need to type up here, so instead of making a list let me just  assure you: there are tonnes –

and they will be up in 2012!

So hopefully the colossal amount of Challenges I have signed up for 2012 will be … more successful!

Cheers!
Ammy

Waiting on Wednesday - January 25, 2012

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

There are so many that I am waiting for ... not entirely patiently ... but here is one that stuck out to me this week:

Timeless (Parasol Protectorate #5)
by: Gail Carriger
Release Date: February 28, 2012

Alexia Tarabotti, Lady Maccon, has settled into domestic bliss. Of course, being Alexia, such bliss involves integrating werewolves into London High society, living in a vampire's second best closet, and coping with a precocious toddler who is prone to turning supernatural willy-nilly. Even Ivy Tunstell's acting troupe's latest play, disastrous to say the least, cannot put a damper on Alexia's enjoyment of her new London lifestyle.

Until, that is, she receives a summons from Alexandria that cannot be ignored. With husband, child, and Tunstells in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to cross the Mediterranean. But Egypt may hold more mysteries than even the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle. What does the vampire Queen of the Alexandria Hive really want from her? Why is the God-Breaker Plague suddenly expanding? And how has Ivy Tunstell suddenly become the most popular actress in all the British Empire?
