Waiting on Wednesday - August 31, 2011

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

There are so many that I am waiting for ... not entirely patiently ... but here are a few that stuck out to me this week:

* I apologize for all the funkiness - am trying to find myself in terms of post designs - bear with! *

(1) Hollow by Richard Denney
Synopsis:

Welcome to the house of Hollow.

In a dystopian future, sixteen year old Leah Munro has been sold to a rich woman in a crippling mansion. Soon Leah discovers that there is something mysterious going on around the home, and with the help of three other girls, she attempts to uncover what is truly happening... what lies beyond all of the plexiglass windows and the hideous screams in the middle of the night? Leah will soon find out

This sounds a tad Gothic Romantic – and I love Gothic Romantic! Bring on the scary houses and mysterious noises! The cover is meh – I would have preferred something more … dark, scary … creepy. But I guess it works.

(2) This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers
Synopsis:
It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up.

As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, everyone’s motivations to survive begin to change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life–and death–inside.

When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?

I have read tonnes of zombie books – watched countless zombie movies – but this one sems novel to me – a survivor who doesn’t want to survive? And being around those who do? For some mysterious past reason? Yes. To all of the above – Am definitely reading this one.

(3) Touch by Jus Accardo

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

Doesn’t this one sound super creepy???  Never mind that you can already see the tension rolling off between Dez and her father, but then there is this mysterious boy and a mysterious purpose to a law firm … Count me in! :D
